As the push for net zero gains pace, we’ve been working closely with local businesses to show just how much of a difference energy-efficient lighting can make—both environmentally and economically.
At TEP, we’ve always believed that progress doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes, it starts with something as straightforward as a lighting upgrade.
We’re proud to be working in partnership with the Darlington Employers Environmental Partnership (DEEP) to support organisations across the region looking to reduce their carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency.
And while we’re focused on helping others, it’s been a real honour to be recognised for the work we’re doing. We were recently named Best Wholesaler: Sole Branch and Best Customer Service: Wholesaler at the Electrical Wholesaler Awards, gaining national recognition for our approach to service, sustainability, and innovation. We’ve also been shortlisted once again this year—which is something we’re incredibly proud of.
The Power of Lighting Upgrades
With rising energy costs and growing pressure to hit sustainability targets, it can be hard to know where to start. But lighting is one of the easiest and most effective changes a business can make.
Switching to energy-efficient LED lighting and smart controls can deliver big results with relatively little disruption. It’s a simple upgrade with long-term benefits.
One of our biggest projects to date has been with Vertu Motor Group, who operate over 180 sites nationwide. We replaced more than 10,000 outdated fittings across their showrooms, workshops, call centres and outdoor spaces.
The results?
55% reduction in electricity usage
433 tonnes of CO₂ emissions saved per year
£600,000+ annual savings on energy bills
Better lighting conditions and a more comfortable working environment
Whether you’re running a single site or managing a national portfolio, the same principles apply. As our General Manager Sarah Marshall puts it:
“Lighting is a relatively simple starting point, but the benefits can be significant. It’s about giving businesses clear, honest advice on how to make small changes with lasting impact.”
Sharing What We Know
We’ve also been invited to feature on DEEP’s upcoming podcast, where we’ll be sharing our experience and discussing how lighting and smart controls can form part of a wider sustainability strategy.
It’s all part of a bigger effort to make net zero feel more achievable for businesses—especially those right here in the North East.
As a fourth-generation, family-run business rooted in Darlington, we’re proud to be part of that conversation and to play our part in helping others move forward, one small step at a time.
